These sessions are held three times a week for Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 pupils. Sessions are led by Loyne school staff, (teachers and/or support staff) and are highly focussed intensive sessions. They are designed to give mainstream children an opportunity to revisit areas of early literacy that had caused them difficulty in the past; the increase in their self-esteem and confidence is particularly pleasing and noteworthy. Sessions are planned using the literacy framework and there is an emphasis on games and motivating activities. In the Key Stage 1 group much of the teaching has a kinaesthetic element.

Special school pupils benefit from the experience of learning alongside their mainstream peers, and access to generally good role models in terms of behaviour and language. During these hour-long sessions, special school pupils also work on their IEP targets.

These sessions take place in the specially equipped library at Ryelands County Primary School, which is fortunately on the same campus as The Loyne School. Numbers range from up to 6 pupils from Ryelands and up to 4 pupils from The Loyne School.

These sessions have featured in an article in The Times Educational Supplement, November 2002.
