Governors – David Elliott

David Elliott

I am a retired medical practitioner. During my 33 years in a city centre practice in Lancaster, I was a member of the Local Medical Committee representing GPs in our area and Primary Care Cancer Lead for our hospital trust. I was also Trustee of Cancer Care and am currently Trustee of Walter Lyon House (a unit involved with drug and alcohol rehabilitation) and Chairman of Westfield War Memorial Village Council. All these roles entail team work and strategic planning.

I have always been interested in education and taught medical students, nurses and Junior Doctors as a General Practitioner. Shortly after my retirement in 2013, I was invited to become a Governor of a large independent school in Lancashire. This has been a very rewarding experience. In my work at the Practice I looked after children and adolescents with physical disabilities/learning difficulties.

I therefore felt very privileged and enthusiastic in 2015, when I was invited to become a Governor of The Loyne Specialist School, whose impressive reputation I held in high regard. I am enjoying the challenge as a Co-opted Governor including my membership of the Personnel, Finance and Buildings Committee where we have been looking at how we communicate with our parents and others through our Facebook page and developing a new website.
