Rachael Harrison
I am a qualified engineer and moved to the area in 1998 when I started my employment. I immediately fell in love with the area – its beauty; its people; its location (close to the Lakes, the Dales and Scotland).
When I applied for the position of parent governor I confess that I knew very little of the role of the governing body but as a parent of a child at the Loyne I knew I wanted to make a difference and support the school to do the best for all our young people. I was appointed as a parent governor in 2019 and the governing body immediately made me feel welcome. There are many interesting courses which are available to support you as a governor and I have been lucky enough to attend a number of these over the years.
I have always had an interest in education and worked within the Training department of my current employer for nearly 10 years. I currently work part time and I am working on improving and developing the leadership and leadership behaviours of the senior lead team within my organisation. I enjoy getting involved with school staff recruitment and award recognition and try to bring skills and experiences from my work and personal life to support me in my role as governor. I have also got my NEBOSH National Certificate in Health and Safety and one of my roles on the governing body is to do regular fire and safety inspections of the school.
