Healthy Schools - Drugs, Alcohol and Tobacco Education
At the beginning of the year, a questionnaire given to FE students highlighted that although students had some knowledge of the initial impact of drinking alcohol (falling down; having a hangover etc.) their awareness of the wider implications alcohol abuse can bring was limited.
Through specified PSD sessions, students acquired a far greater understanding of the negative effects of alcohol including: the legalities; long term effects; short term effects and how peer pressure can play a huge part in decision making. They produced leaflets detailing their new learning, some of which can be seen below.
FE then shared their knowledge with secondary students through discussion, drama and presentation.
After the session one student shared, ‘I never realised drinking alcohol could affect your eye sight.’ And another was shocked to find that excessive drinking could cause cancer.
